"Modesty was once considered a virtue". So begins Dalrymple's weekly column at the BMJ. But he finds an exception in an unintentionally humorous pamphlet, written in 1841 by a Dr Williams, entitled "An Account of Numerous Cases of Extraordinary Cures Effected by Dr Williams."
