I don't know the particular Brooklyn bars referred to in the piece, so it may well be that they are not appropriate places for children. However, where I live (in Ireland, not a million miles away geographically or culturally from the good doctor's native England), it is perfectly acceptable for responsible, respectable parents to bring their children into pubs or hotel bars for lunch (particularly Sunday lunch). The food tends to be of the good, wholesome roast-with-all-the-trimmings variety and the prices are more reasonable than in restaurants.

So I'm a bit surprised by the blanket condemnation. It very much depends on the bar.

This needs to be said over and over. These advocacy groups screaming about "dangerous vaccines" drive me crazy. These people have no concept of a world where smallpox might very well kill one of your children, or polio cripple one.

Thanks for posting this up for us, Steve. It was an interesting evening; we had a number of people coming up to us afterwards saying that they had followed TD's writing for 25 years but had never seen him before (and that he was not what they expected).

We hope to put on more events, and would be interested in bringing him to the US if there was demand. (We haven't discussed this with him, but he's not averse to travel.)

I must admit I've never stayed in an airport hotel that provoked a reaction anything like this. As a matter of fact, I found it difficult to get to sleep in the first place.
